Canton Fair Invitation vs TE Letter: What Pakistani Buyers Actually Need

Reviewed 3 August 20266 min read

Pakistani Canton Fair buyers often receive conflicting advice: one agent says the official Fair invitation is enough, another insists that every applicant must buy a “barcode” or TE Letter, and a third confuses the buyer badge with the visa invitation.

The official Pakistan instructions recognize the Canton Fair Invitation Letter as its own M-visa invitation route. It is not the same document as an Invitation Letter (TE), a Verification Letter or a buyer badge.

The four items people commonly confuse

Invitation Letter (TE)Supports certain business or exchange visa applicationsAuthorized Chinese-side process initiated by inviterNo
Verification LetterOfficial invitation-support document, normally with an ordinary company invitationAuthorized Chinese-side processNo

What the official guidance says

For an M visa, the official Pakistan instructions list three broad circumstances:

  1. An applicant provides an Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter. A Verification Letter should be accompanied by an ordinary invitation from the real Chinese organization.
  2. An applicant provides a Canton Fair Invitation Letter or China International Import Expo Invitation Letter.
  3. An applicant cannot provide those documents and relies on an ordinary company invitation only if he or she qualifies for the published exemption conditions, plus bank and travel evidence.

This structure means a genuine Canton Fair invitation is not merely a decorative event registration. It is explicitly recognized. However, the consular authority may still examine the applicant’s financial position, travel purpose, history, form and supporting documents.

How to obtain the official Canton Fair invitation

The Canton Fair directs overseas buyers to its Buyer E-Service Tool. The invitation application is free of charge. The buyer should use accurate personal and company information because the invitation will later be compared with the passport and visa form.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Create or recover the company’s Canton Fair buyer account.
  2. Complete the buyer and company profile.
  3. Select the relevant session and phase.
  4. Apply for the invitation using passport details exactly.
  5. Monitor the buyer account for the result.
  6. Download the invitation from the official system.
  7. Use the same data in the China visa application.

For the 140th Canton Fair in Autumn 2026, the official schedule is Phase 1 from 15–19 October, Phase 2 from 23–27 October and Phase 3 from 31 October–4 November. Choose the phase that matches your products; an unrelated phase weakens the commercial story of the trip.

Invitation does not equal badge

The invitation supports the visa file. The buyer badge allows entry to the Fair. Registration and badge procedures should also be completed before travel where possible. An applicant can possess a valid invitation but still have unfinished badge registration, or hold a previous buyer badge while needing a new-session invitation for the visa.

When might a TE or ordinary company invitation still be useful?

A buyer may be visiting factories before or after the Fair, meeting a long-term supplier, attending another trade event or travelling on dates that require a more detailed business explanation. An ordinary invitation from a genuine supplier can strengthen the itinerary and explain factory meetings, even when the Canton Fair invitation is the primary recognized document.

Do not submit multiple invitations that contradict one another. If one document says the applicant is visiting Guangzhou for electronics and another says he is going to Yiwu for garments on overlapping dates, the file needs a coherent itinerary.

First-time Canton Fair applicant checklist

  • Passport valid for more than six months with a blank visa page
  • Online application completed under the correct location
  • Recent qualified digital photograph
  • Passport and CNIC copies
  • Police Character Certificate and required apostille where applicable
  • Official Canton Fair invitation
  • Six-month personal bank statement with funds appropriate to the stay
  • Round-trip itinerary or flight reservation
  • Hotel reservation matching the cities and dates
  • Business evidence explaining what you buy, manufacture or sell
  • Old passports and previous China travel evidence where requested

The official instructions describe flight and hotel documents as recommended in the M-visa table, but they are especially useful for first-time visitors and may be requested.

Common myths from social media

“Registration alone is the invitation”

Not necessarily. Complete the specific invitation application and download the official result.

“A Canton Fair invitation guarantees the M visa”

False. It satisfies an invitation route, not the entire assessment.

“The Fair charges for the invitation”

The official Canton Fair invitation application is stated to be free. A facilitator may charge for registration help, file review or a delegation package, but those are separate services.

“Every phase covers every product”

False. Phase selection matters. ChinaChallo should match each applicant to the relevant phase before applying.

“You need a new buyer badge every visit”

Regular overseas buyer cards may be reusable, but session registration and current entry requirements still need to be completed. Confirm the latest badge rules in the official buyer system.

Step 3: Visa consistency audit

Match the Fair invitation, form, bank statement, hotel, flight and business profile.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Canton Fair invitation accepted for an M visa from Pakistan?

It is specifically listed in the official Pakistan M-visa requirements as a recognized invitation route. Final issuance is still discretionary.

Is a Canton Fair invitation a TE Letter?

No. They are separate documents.

Can I apply for the invitation free?

The official Canton Fair states that the invitation application through its Buyer E-Service Tool is free of charge.

Should my hotel cover only Guangzhou?

It should match the actual itinerary. If ChinaChallo’s delegation includes Beijing, Yiwu or factory visits in another city, the form and reservations should explain those movements consistently.
